The Hancock County Probate Court is committed to serving citizens with efficiency, professionalism, and courtesy. Our goal is to make your experience with the court as smooth and helpful as possible.
The Probate Court has original jurisdiction in a variety of important legal matters, including:
Issuing marriage and firearm licenses
Handling estates of deceased persons and probating wills
Managing guardianships and conservatorships for minors and incapacitated adults
Overseeing trusts and election-related responsibilities
Managing traffic court matters
Issuing birth and death certificates
Processing involuntary commitment cases
Most cases are resolved without a jury trial, but the Probate Court does have the authority to conduct jury trials when required.
